Back-Up Child Care

Back-Up Solutions is a collaborative effort of Child Care Resource Service and United Way of Champaign County Success By 6 . Parents in Champaign County can utilize this temporary "back-up" child care program for times when customary child care is unavailable.

Why parents need Back-Up Solutions

Parents know that even the best planned child care arrangements can be disrupted from time to time. Back-up child care is a necessity for many working parents regardless of their current child care arrangements. Parents can now plan ahead and identify their options to be prepared with a "back-up solution" for their child care needs.

Why children need Back-Up Solutions

Children should be cared for in a safe environment by knowledgeable caregivers that can provide child-appropriate activities and guidance.

Can I Use Back-Up Solutions if I Use CCRS Payment (CCAP) Assistance?

Providers who participate in Back-Up Solutions should receive payment for their services on the day of care or be guaranteed payment through the Child Care Assistance Program. The importance of planning ahead for back-up child care is a critical step for families who are eligible for the Child Care Assistance Program.

In order to guarantee payment all necessary paperwork must be processed before back-up care is needed. In order for the payment to be guaranteed through the Child Care Assistance Program the family must:

Have an active child care assistance case
Be approved for the hours and time of day for which back-up child care will be needed. (In other words, back-up child care must match the days and hours of the existing care arrangement) .

If child care is needed for times not listed on their active case, or if a job situation or school schedule has changed hours or added additional hours not yet reported, this change in schedule must be documented before approval can be granted.

Any one with an active Child Care Assistance approval should next select a back-up provider, and submit the form "Add a Provider" in order to be prepared for those times when their regular child care provider is unavailable.

How Do I Enroll?

The Child Care Resource Service at the University of Illinois has specialists ready to assist you with enrollment. Back-Up Solutions is one part of our full range of services offered to parents. There may be a fee for our service depending on your income and family size, however, if you are eligible for CCAP there is no fee for our service. When you enroll in Back-Up Solutions, you will be given a BUS ID# and a password to gain access to the online systems below.
